Pilot Vessel |
|
This vessel was conceived during a lengthy and successful tender bid for Sedgemoor District Council to supply a new Pilot Transfer Vessel for their operation at Bridgwater, replacing an existing 8m Cheverton style monohull. After extensive consultation, a widened version of the Signature 595 was chosen as the best platform for the new project, giving excellent stability and working deck area whilst keeping overall length to a minimum. A first for BWSeaCat Ltd, this 595 will be equipped with a pair of 25hp inboard diesel engines running tunneled propellers to achieve an expected service speed of 12 knots, exceeding the vessel tender specification. An aft ‘lantern style’ wheelhouse with a rear boarding platform, gunwale height weather deck, stainless rails and heavy duty fendering will complete what will surely be a sturdy and dependable turn-key solution for Bridgwater Pilots. Delivered in early August 2006, this vessel is now fully commissioned and fulfilling its pilotage duties for Sedgemoor District Council. |

Quote from Peter Lee, Marine Adviser & Pilot, Port of Bridgwater.
“We have found the vessel to be very effective in use and of very good build quality. We have noticed when coming alongside a ship for boarding and landing pilots that there is significantly less turbulence and interaction than we experience with single hulled vessels. This means the initial contact between the ship and the boat tends to be much more gentle. The catamaran design results in a large and stable platform for boarding and landing, which is what it’s all about. The twin engines make for excellent manoeuvrability. In short, we are very pleased with the boat.” |

Widened version of standard 595 with rear central wheelhouse and gunwale top main forward deck for ease of pilot transfer. Inboard diesel power and full watertight bulkheads and under deck storage. High strength with low weight give good performance from small engines.
